Community Education and Training is a private training organisation which provides an alternative education programme that focuses on basic learning skills, in particular numeracy and literacy as well as career planning and vocational skill development.
The overall aim of the programme is for secondary school students under the age of 16, who have been unable to participate in the normal education system, to develop work related skills and attitudes and to identify further training or employment goals for themselves.
Referrals often come from parents or truancy officers, where the student’s attendance at secondary school has been less than 50%. There are no fees as the course is funded by the Ministry of Education.
