This month, it’s all about being clever with waste! From the wonderful Eye on Nature Creative Arts Exhibition throughout the October school holidays, to the final touches being made on the soon-to-be-open Manurewa Community Recycling Centre.

We’ll be hosting a free compost giveaway day in October so you can get your hands on some ‘black gold’ made from food scraps collected in Papakura. Our free rat traps have been popular with Manurewa and Papakura residents, make sure you get yours too!

Eye on Nature Creative Arts Exhibition
Experience the crafty creativity of our tamariki at the free Eye on Nature Creative Arts Exhibition these school holidays!

South & East Auckland kindergartens and primary schools have been challenged to create art around the Eye on Nature 2022 theme, Incredible Kai, making use of sustainable materials and re-purposed waste. The winning schools and kindergartens will be awarded cash prizes and art supply vouchers, with a total prize pool worth $2,550.

The exhibition will be on display in the Auckland Botanic Gardensโ gallery space in the heart of Manurewa. Be sure to vote in the Peopleโs Choice category for your favourite piece of art! Find out more here.

After lots of planning and preparation, we’re nearly ready to open the Manurewa Community Recycling Centre! Our centre will join a growing network of Community Recycling Centres across Tฤmaki Makaurau.
Manurewa Community Recycling Centre coming soon!
Located on our premises at 38 Holmes Road, Manurewa, this awesome initiative will aim to divert waste from landfill, educate the community on minimising waste, and create new jobs and volunteer opportunities. It will also feature a Reuse Store, where you can hunt for bargains or give your unwanted items a second life.

Sunday team member needed!
We have a job opportunity for a Recycling Coordinator to work part-time on Sundays. You’ll help operate the Manurewa Community Recycling Centre and Reuse Store. Find out more and apply here.
Become a Zero Waste Volunteer
There are lots of ways you can get involved, from providing retail assistance in the Reuse Store, to repairing items so they can be resold, sorting and weighing materials and much more. Find out more and apply here.

Free compost giveaway day on Thursday 13 October
We’re giving away free bags of compost on Thursday 13 October, from 9am to 3pm at 38 Holmes Road, Manurewa.
This wonderful ‘black gold’ was made from food scraps collected in Papakura. It’s a great way to give your garden a nutrient boost.
First come, first served! Maximum two bags per person while stocks last.


Pillars Ka Pou Whakahou Children of Prisoners Week 2022
We were honoured to help Pillars New Zealand with their mural project for Children of Prisoners Week 2022. This mural aims to make the invisible visible and highlight the messages and ideas that Pillars youth want to share with the world. The mural will soon be on public display in South Auckland and will continue to amplify the recognition that children of people in prison are children of promise and potential. Free rat traps for Manurewa and Papakura residents
As part of our mahi with Pest Free Urban South, we have free rat traps to give away for Manurewa and Papakura residents!

We are thrilled that the Beautification Trust has been named as a finalist for two major awards!

The Sustainable Business Awards Social Impactor Award is presented to an organisation that is deliberately and consistently improving peopleโs lives through its day to day business practices, with social good integrated throughout the whole organisation.

The Westpac Auckland Business Award for Excellence in Community Contribution recognises organisations that implement initiatives that have a positive impact on the community and generate outcomes that have a long term benefit.

It’s an incredible honour to have our community-driven kaupapa recognised with these nominations.
